Pirates Match report 2007

Saturday 3rd February 2007

Match Abandoned, 5 red cards, Pitch Invasion, Chris’s crutches on the pitch for more time than Thomas and a 2-2 draw

Once again the curse of the ref strikes, two of the most contentious penalty decisions this year and falling for the diving cheating tactics of the opposition the ref lost complete control of the game.

The first half started really bright with some good football from both teams, Rigo taking the lead with a well-worked goal down the left and a good finish that left Paul no chance of saving.

The Hooligans were not put off and came back with some great football, Steve completed a superb move, which all the team had a part in, with a stunning strike from the right.  Then Ritchie in true striker predatory style pounced on a loose ball in the area and stabbed the ball home form 6 yards.  2 –1 to the hooligans.

This is when the opposition started the diving, cheating and moaning as they knew if they played us at football they would have lost.  In fairness the ref in the first half didn’t fall for it and was really fair, to both teams.  But the second half was a different story.

From the very start RIGO were moaning and diving at every opportunity and when the ball came loose in our penalty area Lee slid into clear the ball at least 2 yards in front of the opposing player.  Penalty!!!!!  Even the opposition were surprised!!!  2-2

Then the ref lost any control as Steve broke through their defence their keeper came charging out of his area, slid in and clearly handled the ball on the ground 2 or 3 yards outside his area, the ref waved play on.  From that incident they then played the ball into our area and Matty making a good tackle, fairly winning the ball, Penalty!!!!!  Then all hell broke loose.

Chris threw his crutches on the pitch in disgust at the poor decisions and one of their player ran to the ref pointing this out, even though they had the penalty.  Then we lost our cool, Dave and their number 4 having words and a bit of pushing and shoving the ref then sent them both off.  Now it was a free for all, a pitch invasion from Chris and John, even though it was a slow invasion from Chris.

Ritchie's hands were burning, he hasn't strangled anyone for 5 weeks and temptation was too much and he did his Boston strangler impression on their number 10.  Red card number 2

A Rigo player went for Chris, Bradford came to the rescue taking four backwards steps before doing a reverse paratrooper roll on the ground.  At this stage tempers had gone, but the sight of John falling backwards trying desperately to keep his balance really helped calm it down a bit.

Chris by this stage was furious and wanted to show his disgust and he got our third red card.

Game off, the ref had enough and abandoned the game at 2-2

Any chance of winning the league now gone.

In true Hooligans style later in the bar after a beer or twenty the whole team and fans rein-acted John's backward steps and fall, John didn't seem too impressed.
